I have been a lawyer for over 29 years and I practice only family law. About half my cases are negotiated, and the other half are in court. I also help plan family law conferences, and seminars, and for a few years I taught lawyers a course in family law. Like all Ontario lawyers, I am required to take continuing legal education to update my knowledge and enhance my skills. Some of my trials have been reported in legal publications which means they covered an unusual or unique point of law.

For 20 years I represented children in custody proceedings, having been appointed by the Office of the Children’s Lawyer under the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario. Through that office I also helped develop a program to keep families out of court by alternative methods of resolving disputes, such as family group conferencing.

I have also done many years of volunteer work, for families and children, such as for a woman’s shelter, a children’s mental health organization, as a Sunday school teacher, and a reader to kindergarten children.

I love what I do. It is very satisfying to help a client through the distress and upheaval of a separation to a happier place. I work in collaboration with my clients, and every communication and document is always subject to approval before it leaves my office. If my client wishes, I will also attend mediation with him or her but that is not usually necessary.

With over 29 years’ in practice, I now (occasionally) represent the adult children of some of my clients!
